Starting The 100 Day Project.
You’re probably asking… what is the 100 day project? well… it’s a project that lasts 100 days of course! But the effect of taking part can last a lifetime.
Lead by Lindsay Jean Thomas, the 100 Day Project is a huge challenge, that helps to build habits, confidence and skills. I wasn’t going to take part this year, mostly because I thought I would not have the time. But there are certain things that I want to get better at within my practise, and I thought that this might nudge me to be a little more proactive about experimenting with more physical art techniques.

And then I thought ‘oh well, I’ve probably missed the starting date anyway and I’d have to catch up, so maybe it’s not worth it!’ A terribly lazy excuse, Ma’am. But when I checked (sat on the loo, of course) I discovered that the starting date was in fact, that day! So I decided to take part, because I had ran out of flimsy excuses.
Last time I did this challenge was a few years ago now (I got to day 64-ish), but it helped me so so much to gain confidence in the style that I had at the time, and it was just great to be a part of something bigger.
This year I’m giving myself 2 rules - I have to draw objects that I own and are in my house, and it has to be done on loose paper so that I can stick it on my wall. Two simple rules that may seem to give me too much liberty, but will actually give me parameters on where to start. I get enough freedom to use any physical medium that I want (which is great because I really really really wanna do more mixed media works) but I’m not floundering in infinite choices. And also I have lots of really cool things in my house.
Anyway, here’s my day 1 illustration!
Day 1 - Egg Boys
These Egg Boys are my absolute favourite trinket in my house. My sister made them for me a few years ago, which started a tradition of making each other egg themed crafts for birthdays and Christmas! I literally see them everyday, and I love them so much that I just had to draw them.
I’m hoping to give updates on here weekly about how the challenge is going for me, but if you want mostly daily updates please do follow me on social media.
If you are joining in with the challenge, I wish you the greatest of levelling up on your habits and skills. Do your best and have fun, and I will also do my best and have fun!
